What is ‘Yurt Yoga’?

During the Spring, Summer and Autumn months, we endeavor to gather for “Yurt Yoga” on every third Saturday of each month.

However, as life (and Nature) is always willing to present us with wonderful surprises on the spur of the moment, we invite flexibility with the schedule and allow spontaneity to dictate.  (Again, along with unpredictable weather conditions, holidays may supersede the event.  Always check the latest schedule updates on the HOME page.)

And so, when weather and schedules allow, on those third Saturday’s of each month, stan-in-yurt-024we all arrive in First Creek at approximately 8:50 am so that we can begin our yoga asanas inside the Yurt at 9:00 am sharp.

The program of the morning will vary from time to time based on Stan’s determination; but typically it entails a yoga sequence, followed by a Yoga Nidra, or meditation, and ending with a video or lecture by Yogi Desai. (As Yogi Desai is unable to join us in person, this is by way of DVD. )
This portion of the day usually terminates about 12:45 or 1:00 pm at which time we then saunter over to the cabin or large picnic table to partake in a wonderful meal comprised of an eclectic assortment of offerings. The meal centers around a delicious, healing Ayurvedic dish lovingly prepared by Sandy and completed by various items brought by attendees. It is not required that you prepare or bring anything as there is always an abundance.
Lunch is always accompanied by lively and interesting conversation and followed by a steaming pot of tea and more sharing. Time ceases to exist in the peaceful surroundings and wonderful company.

This is definitely a ‘retreat’ from the hectic schedules and tasks that seem to run our lives. This is not only a ‘retreat’ but a well-deserved ‘treat’. So mark your calendars and reserve the third Saturday of each month. Do it for your self and for your health.

A long life may not be good enough, but a good life is long enough.

Directions to the Yurt:

From Weatchee: From 97A, take a left turn onto the Navarre Coulee Road. (approximately 25 miles) Follow that route to where you see Lake Chelan below you and continue down the hill until you almost reach the State Park. Look for First Creek Road (on your left).
A left turn here will put you on First Creek Rd — it is unpaved.Continue up the hill for 1.7 miles which will bring you to a sign with four family names, one of which is Bryant. Turn right here, head up the hill and then immediately turn left. You should then be headed down a road that is parallel to the road you just left. Cheer up, it is only about a half mile with no turns – you will see the yurt on your left.

WELCOME! You can park your vehicle anywhere — even in the road is okay — we are a dead end destination

From Chelan: Take Lake Shore Drive up the south side of the Lake until you get to the State Park. Turn left onto Navarre Coulee Rd. Cross the bridge and on your right you will see First Creek Road — turn right.
